Finding The Right Size Mailer For Your Item

You will first need to measure the dimensions of your item in millimetres ( mm ) to find out which mailer size would be the best to pack your item in.

Use the following formula to work out the size:

Item Thickness + Item Width + 25 mm = Mailer Width needed.

Item Thickness + Item Length + 50 mm = Mailer Length needed.

If your item is cylindrical (like a tub of tablets) you can find the Mailer Width by first measuring around the middle with a tape measure and dividing this measurement in half to find the Item Width. You should then add 25mm to the Item Width measurement to find the Mailer Width.

The Mailer Length for cylindrical items is found by measuring the Item Length and Item Thickness (measure across the lid) + 50mm.

There is enough flexibility for you to pick a mailer up to 10mm shorter than the length you have calculated.
One example would be a PC Plus magazine:
Item Thickness (10) + Item Width (210) + 25 mm = Mailer Width (235)

Item Thickness (10) + Item Length (285) + 50 mm = Mailer Length (345)

In this case the nearest mailer size would be either:
240 mm x 345 mm
260 mm x 345 mm
260 mm x 360 mm
Another example would be a DVD:
Item Thickness (14) + Item Width (135) + 25 mm = Mailer Width (174)

Item Thickness (14) + Item Length (190) + 50 mm = Mailer Length (254)

In this case the nearest mailer size would be either:
180 mm x 265 mm
205 mm x 245 mm
175 mm x 260 mm
Another example would be a thick book:
Item Thickness (45) + Item Width (185) + 25 mm = Mailer Width (255)

Item Thickness (45) + Item Length (230) + 50 mm = Mailer Length (325)

In this case the nearest mailer size would be either:
270 mm x 360 mm
260 mm x 345 mm
260 mm x 360 mm
Disclaimer
I spent a long time testing this formula, and I have found that it works every time for me - I cannot guarantee that it will work for everyone - it depends on accurate measurement of the item to be packed, and on the calculation being done properly.
